With Oulton Broad’s powerboating season just round the corner, it’s time for our annual look at the best places to watch Oulton Broad’s powerboat racing.
The marina where the racing is held is surrounded by great viewpoints, including parks, pubs and more. Nicholas Everitt Park is always the centre of activity, with beer tents, food trucks and race commentary, plus plenty of space for little ones to run around. Parking can be an issue on race day, so it’s worth either arriving early or parking a little way away from the marina. Oulton Broad has two train stations, both of which offer free parking, although these also tend to fill up quickly.
If you’re looking for a place to enjoy a pint and a packet of crisps while you listen to the roar of the engines, then the Wherry Hotel is a great choice. With plenty of marina-side seating, there’s ample room for families here, and the lunch menu, while basic, is full of family favourites.
If you’re looking for a culinary treat while you watch the racing, the Commodore is a fantastic pub and restaurant which is located on Commodore Road. Though from the road it may not look like the best place to watch the races, go through the pub and you’ll discover a huge terraced marina-side seating area with picnic tables that’s a great place to set up for the day. The Commodore is known for its food, and makes a great place to grab a bite at lunchtime.
