Plans have been announced for a spectacular seven-mile long flotilla designed to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee by celebrating Britain’s maritime heritage.

Among the vessels taking part will be Motor Torpedo Boat 102, which is currently moored at Oulton Broad. The boat was part of the Dunkirk evacuations during the Second World War, and has been lovingly restored to reflect its historical importance.
Marine Engineer Richard Bassey, who along with a group of fellow enthusiasts, has kept MTB 102 afloat for more than 15 years told the Easter Daily Press: “We’re absolutely delighted, we’re honoured to be chosen to take part in the pageant. We were involved with the MTB when she was just another old boat but over the past 15 years things have changed considerably and she’s quite a celebrity now.”
The torpedo boat has a notable history: Winston Churchill and American President Dwight D Eisenhower personally inspected the boat in 1944 as part of preparations for the D-Day landings.
Many other Oulton Broad and Lowestoft boats will join MTB 102 in the jubilee flotilla, with dragon boats, barges and leisure vessels set to show off Oulton Broad’s proud ocean-going history.

It can be hard to decide what to do at New Year’s, especially with so many options, so we’ve taken a look around and come up with the best of what’s on in Oulton Broad on New Year’s Eve.
If you’re looking for a New Year’s Party in Oulton Broad, there are a lot of options. With the Wherry, Bridge’s and the Wine Lodge all offering a great night out, it’s worth having a look around and seeing which best suits you.
The newly reopened Commodore has a lot to prove, so the Commodore New Year’s Party could be the one to watch this year. Time’s running out, so if you’re still deciding which Oulton Broad New Year’s Eve is for you, you’d better hurry!

Since closing on New Year’s Eve 2008, one of Oulton Broad’s most popular live music venues has lain empty and silent.
The Brewery Tap, formerly run by local sound engineer Stuart Perry, was for many years one of the liveliest spots in town, hosting a hugely popular annual battle of the bands contest, as well as many successful charity events, including the Halloween on Fire fancy dress parties, which raised money for Addenbrookes hospital.
Sadly, Perry declined to renew the lease in 2009, and since his departure the Brewery has remained closed. Many locals mourn the loss of the Brewery Tap, and though other Oulton Broad pubs have put on successful live music nights, none match its atmosphere and authenticity.
We at Oulton-Broad.com would love to see the Oulton Broad Brewery Tap reopen and resume its championing of the local music scene, which has been sadly deprived of one of its most vital supporters.

Oulton Broad’s property market has always attracted homebuyers, with families wanting to enjoy the benefits of living near to the Marina and Everitt Park.
Even through the recent financial crises, the property market has remained surprisingly buoyant, but smaller agencies are finding it increasingly difficult to compete with national companies who use online tools to help buyers find their ideal property.
But now there is a secret weapon in the arsenal of the smaller companies, thanks to the arrival of estate agency software from Vebra, which allows smaller firms to compete with the big boys, giving them access to cutting edge sales tools including online portfolios and even smartphone apps.
By allowing smaller firms access to virtual tours, detailed online floorplans and social network marketing tools, local agents can combine the personal touch with hi-tech communication tools.

The Commodore has always been at the heart of Oulton Broad life. In its outstanding location overlooking the broads, with its own dedicated moorings for daytrippers, it was the perfect place to while away a long summer day.

Sadly, in 2010 the pub was forced to close, but now a local entrepreneur has rescued it from oblivion.
David Moss of Oulton Broad Leisure, previously responsible for the rejuvenated South Pier and fresh from the success of the Duke’s Head in Somerleyton, has joined forces with Enterprise Inns Ltd. to transform the fortunes of the Commodore.
Following an extensive refurbishment, the Commodore reopened last week to delighted customers. The new 52-seat interior may be a far cry from the Commodore’s scruffy former self, but regulars will be pleased to hear that the quality of the beer is better than ever. The new menu is an instant hit, featuring a mix of classic pub favourites and more adventurous options.
The Commodore’s large patio area, which opens onto the marina, was one of Oulton Broad’s best summertime eating spots, and the refurbishment has returned it to its place as the perfect place to enjoy the unique atmosphere of Oulton Broad.
A new website showcasing the Commodore’s revamped menu will be launched in the new year.
