The Carlton Marshes are the Broads in miniature form. Visitors will find flower studded marshes drained
by a system of dykes and grazed by cattle during the summer months, and its a place which creates a paradise for wintering wading birds as well as birds of prey including the hobby. Many water voles may be seen in and around the dykes along with especially plants including the rare and protected water soldier. Carlton Marshes is rather randomly famous as being one of the best places in the UK for a range of freshwater snails which is said to reflect the good water quality in the dykes.
